We want to have a coherent, wide-ranging and varied collection of second-hand books, so we buy books and accept book donations in any language.
We only trade with people residing in the European Union and institutions established in any country belonging to the European Union. We comply with the rules governing the community environment.
If you think you have books that may be of interest to us, please do not hesitate to write to us at the following address: hello@citabooks.com. We will try to offer you a fair price for your books.
Before sending them, you can show us several images of the books and provide us with any information about them that you consider important, by writing to us at the email address: hello@citabooks.com or via WhatsApp at +34 683 262 329. You will receive a response in 2-3 working days. This way we can quickly confirm our interest and value each book to offer you the best price.
If we confirm our interest and you accept the commercial agreement we propose, you can then send us the books by post. We will provide you with a physical address to do so.
If the books are in Madrid (Spain), we will pick them up at no cost to you, but if they are not in Madrid or are outside of Spain, we will cover half of the shipping costs of the books. You can estimate the shipping cost by consulting the price table in the “Customer Service” section.
The shipment will be made by registered mail (identified and with signature upon delivery) and the proof of shipment will be kept until the end of the shipment. We will ask you to sign a form confirming that you have full legal right to sell the books, and we will ask you for some form of identification.
But please do not send us a book until you have confirmation that we are interested in buying it. Before sending anything, please contact us at the following address: hello@citabooks.com.
As soon as we receive the shipment, you will receive an email confirming delivery of the package by the shipping company. We will also confirm receipt of the shipment. At that time, we will pay the amount due by direct bank transfer to an account in your name. We can arrange payment in any currency.
You will receive the money in the account you have provided within 3 to 5 working days from the date we receive your books.
We would like to point out that we are not a sales channel or any other intermediary in the sale of books, that is to say, we do not sell books that we do not own. We also do not sell on commission. If your book is suitable for our stock, we will make you an offer to buy at a fair market value.
Sometimes we have two copies of the same book at different prices. This is because the prices of our books can vary according to certain parameters. A new, out-of-print, signed copy with a dedication or special binding may have a higher market value.
The internet has given us access to catalogues from all over the world and the average sale price of each of the books. However, catalogues cannot be our only tool when setting the price of a book. It should be noted that the internet does not reflect the real demand for the product; many of the books shown may have a price that does not necessarily correspond to their value.
Finally, we would like to point out that we do not offer a professional second-hand book appraisal service. We are not professional book appraisers.
What is the difference between a professional appraiser and a bookseller?
The professional book appraiser is a book specialist who offers an appraisal and certification service not only to determine the market price of a book, but also to prove that any printed document is an original copy, has not been tampered with and has not suffered any loss. A professional appraiser offers an accurate estimate of the value of your books, while a bookseller, however, offers a price he is willing to pay for a particular book.
The value of a second-hand book is estimated according to its characteristics. Often, the following characteristics are relevant for its valuation:
As a general rule, the value of a book is always determined by demand: the higher the demand, the higher the price. Similarly, a title will have a higher price if it is scarce in the market.
A book has more value due to the cultural relevance of the title or the author.
A book has more value when it is a special edition: a first edition (especially if it is scarce), a rare edition, an illustrated edition or a collector's edition.
A book has more value when it includes the author's signature (or a dedication).
A book has more value when it belongs to the personal collection of a prominent figure.
A book has more value if it is in good condition and retains all its original elements.
A book has more value if it has distinctive physical characteristics.
If you have any questions or would like more information about the conditions for buying and donating books, please do not hesitate to contact us by email: hello@citabooks.com.
